BRANSON, MISSOURI

I TOOK MY THREE CHILDREN TO BRANSON, MISSOURI OVER SPRING BREAK LAST YEAR. WE BID ON OUR WEEK LONG VACATION RENTAL AT A SITE CALLED SKY AUCTION. OUR FINAL BID WAS $1. I HAD TO PAY A SERVICE CHARGE TO SKY AUCTION OF $20. THEN THERE WAS A CHARGE OF $195 FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK TO THE COMPANY. THAT IS ALL I PAID FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK FOR A VACATION RENTAL. I WENT ON THE WEBSITE AND PICKED OUR LOCATION (BRANSON) AND THE RESORT, THEN THE WEEK WE WANTED TO TRAVEL, IT WAS VERY EASY AND NOT VERY EXPENSIVE AT ALL. UPON PACKING FOR THE TRIP, WE PACKED CEREAL, SNACKS AN NON PERISHABLES INTO THE CAR. UPON ARRIVAL TO WESTGATE RESORTS, WE CHECKED INTO OUR TWO BEDROOM VILLA, AND THEN WENT TO BUY GROCERIES. THE VILLA THAT THEY GAVE US WAS SORT OF OLD BUT FAIRLY WELL MAINTAINED. IT HAD PLUSH CARPET. THERE WAS A HUGE WHIRLPOOL TUB UPSTAIRS, HOWEVER, THE HOT WATER HEATER WAS NOT BIG ENOUGH TO FILL THE TUB. THAT WAS SORT OF STRANGE I THOUGHT. WHAT IS THE USE OF HAVING THE BIG TUB, IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE A COLD WHIRLPOOL???DISAPPOINTING TO SAY THE LEAST. THEY REALLY PUSHED THEIR TIME SHARES AT THIS RESORT TO. SINCE MY HUSBAND DID NOT TRAVEL WITH ME, I DID NOT QUALIFY, BUT THEY STILL BUGGED ME.
MY CHILDREN AND I WENT TO SOME OF THE ENTERTAINMENT AT THE RESORT. OH MY GOODNESS, IT WAS LIKE SOMETHING FROM 50 YEARS AGO. I DON'T EVEN THINK MY GRANDPARENTS LISTENED TO THIS MUSIC. NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE DIDN'T STAY VERY LONG AT THE ENTERTAINMENT.
WE DID VISIT THE TITANIC MUSEUM WHILE IN BRANSON AND RODE THE DUCKS. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY BOTH. THEY DID COST QUITE A BIT, BUT SINCE I SAVED SO MUCH ON THE VILLA, IT BALANCED OUT. I ALSO DROVE SEVERAL TIMES TO THE BRANSON LANDING. THEY HAVE A FREE TROLLEY THAT TELLS YOU A LITTLE HISTORY, IT WAS FUN AND A BREAK FROM WALKING. THEY ALSO HAD AN AWESOME WATER FOUNTAIN SHOW EVERY HOUR CHOREOGRAPHED TO MUSIC, IT WAS SO GREAT WE SAW IT SEVERAL TIMES.

THE LAST SUMMER TRIP BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS

WITH SCHOOL STARTING NEXT WEEK, I WANTED TO TAKE THE KIDS FOR ONE LAST FUN THING TO DO, TO MAKE A GREAT ENDING TO SUMMER VACATION. THE IOWA STATE FAIR STARTED YESTERDAY. I CHECKED HOTELS, OUCH!!!! EVEN ECONOLODGE AND SUPER 8 WANTED $125 FOR EACH NIGHT, I DON'T THINK SO!!! THE COMFORT IN AND SUITES, EMBASSY SUITES AND MARIOTT'S WANTED BETWEEN $200 AND $300 FOR EACH NOT. THIS WAS NOT LOOKING VERY PROMISING. AS A LAST RESORT I WENT TO PRICELINE. I PUT IN A COUPLE OF NAME YOUR OWN PRICE REQUESTS AND I WAS TURNED DOWN. I WAS ABOUT READY TO GIVE UP. I WENT BACK TO THE PRICELINE WEBSITE AND CHECKED ALL LOCATIONS IN DES MOINES, IOWA AND NAMED 90.00 A NIGHT FOR A 3 1/2 STAR, THAT WOULDN'T BE TOO BAD. I DIDN'T HAVE VERY MUCH HOPE. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, THE MARIOTT DOWNTOWN DES MOINES, IOWA ACCEPTED IT. NOW WE ARE OFF TO THE STATE FAIR TODAY, THE BLANK PARK ZOO TOMORROW AND THE SCIENCE CENTER OF IOWA ON SUNDAY BEFORE WE COME HOME! I AM SO GLAD THEY INVENTED PRICELINE! IT SAVES SO MUCH MONEY!!
